Mentoring for good

The challenge of changing our world often comes down to changing the life of one person at a time.

Lightwarriors

Flint Sky’s Creative Director & partner, Athol Moult, had a desire to mentor emerging photographers as a means to empowering a young person without the advantage of a 1st world education, to tell their stories through photography and possibly give them the opportunity to make a career of photography. The concept ‘Lightwarriors’ was developed as a platform from which to attract Corporate Social investment in learnerships for students. Teddy Sambu became the first Lightwarrior to be sponsored by African investment company, Imara Holdings. The 25 year old from the sprawling township of Khayelitsha studied at the Cape Town School of Photography and under Athol’s mentorship graduated, and now has a full time job as a studio photographer at Woolworths.. Leticia Makhura is a 23-year-old Motswanan student who has been granted a full scholarship at the University of Gaberone, Botswana to study a degree in Conservation Tourism Management.
